Joondalup MP calls on Bunnings to ‘bring back the sizzle!”
30 June 2020
• Member for Joondalup, Emily Hamilton MLA has asked Bunnings to consider re-establishing sausage sizzle fundraising opportunities for local groups in WA
• Many local organisations are struggling with their fundraising efforts while the need for support is still high
A number of local organisations including local school P&Cs, Rotary, and a Fathering Project group have contacted local MLA Emily Hamilton’s office with concerns about how they will be able to continue their important community work and support local community projects, given the decision by Bunnings to cease sausage sizzles for the remainder of the year.
The sausage sizzles usually provide a solid fundraising revenue stream for local community and sporting organisations, particularly in the Joondalup electorate.
On behalf of the Joondalup community, Ms Hamilton has contacted Wesfarmers to ask if they will consider re-establishing the Bunnings sausage sizzles in Western Australia.
COVID-19 has been a difficult and challenging time, and has led to changes in our community, with many usual activities being suspended.
Given the strong leadership and decisive action taken by the McGowan Labor Government during this pandemic, Western Australia has just seen a move to Phase 4 restrictions and the state is on the road to recovery.
With the easing of restrictions in mind, Ms Hamilton has written to Wesfarmers asking that they consider bringing back the Bunnings sausage sizzle for local Bunnings stores in WA, while maintaining social distancing and hygiene requirements.
Comments attributed to Emily Hamilton:
“There are so many fantastic community and sporting organisations, that for years have relied on their volunteers spending time cooking sausages outside local Bunnings stores, raising significant funds to support local projects. Now more than ever, these groups need to be able to continue raising funds for their community involvement.
“Local Fathering Projects—Edgemen and Currambine LADDS—participate to raise funds for fathers and/or father figures to participate in activities together like bushwalks and camps.
Comments attributed to Rotary Club of Joondalup President, Ralph Simulis:
“The Bunnings sausage sizzles are very important to our Rotary Club. In addition to raising needed funds for worthy local causes, it is an opportunity for us to connect with our Joondalup community and let them know what we are doing.”
