Bus delivers for struggling young mums
- The Cook Government delivers $94,000 for struggling young mums in the northern suburbs
A $94,000 election commitment for Youth Futures’ Nest program is now complete, following delivery of a people mover vehicle.
Youth Futures recently took delivery of the vehicle, which is used to take people to and from appointments, to deliver items to parents in the program and to help young families move into their own home on leaving the Nest.
Youth Futures’ Nest Program helps teenage parents who are homeless, or are living in unsuitable conditions, and are at risk of their child coming into the care of the state.
Being part of the Nest program enables young mothers to receive support for their underlying challenges, develop parenting skills, and plan for a brighter future.
As well as the new vehicle, the 2021 election commitment has been used to provide items including furniture, nappies, baby food, and clothing.
The Nest has supported 550 young mums and babies escaping homelessness or domestic violence, since its inception in 2008.
Comments attributed to local member for Joondalup Emily Hamilton MLA:
“I’m pleased to have delivered support for young mothers in Youth Futures’ Nest program who may be experiencing a combination of mental health challenges, financial hardship, unstable or inadequate housing and unreliable transport.
This commitment to the Youth Futures’ Nest program provides invaluable support and outreach to teenage mothers and their babies for up to 18 months.”
