Liberal Party misleads community on health

• False information has been broadcast about the State Government’s commitment to the Joondalup Health Campus
• The Western Australian Labor Government is committed to funding the Joondalup Health Campus

Local MP Emily Hamilton has criticised the Liberal Party for their recent paid advertisements in the Joondalup/Wanneroo Times and Weekender newspapers that has misled our community with regards to Western Australia’s Labor Government funding for the upgrade of the Joondalup Health Campus.

In Parliament yesterday, Ms Hamilton raised the matter with Minster for Health Hon. Roger Cook MLA by way of a parliamentary question.

Minister Cook spoke about WA Labor’s commitment to deliver the upgrade of the Joondalup Health Campus so that patients in the northern corridor receive the care they need close to home.

The McGowan Government is getting on with the job and will deliver on its commitment to expand Joondalup Health Campus to reflect the needs of residents in our northern suburbs.

Important planning continues, with works expected to commence early next year. Hospitals are not built in a day—Mr Goodenough and Mr Porter should recognise the importance of undertaking due diligence to determine the best way for Joondalup Health Campus to be expanded, especially as it will remain a functioning hospital during the expansion.

Minister Cook highlighted that when the State Budget comes down tomorrow we will see a healthy injection for this upgrade.

He went on to say the Liberals set a poor example when it comes to funding health care, as Scott Morrison and Christian Porter have cut hospital expenditure in WA by $77 million, resulting in reduced health care for Western Australians.

“Clearly the Liberals, in particular Ian Goodenough and Christian Porter, are scaremongering and are worried about their seats in the Federal Parliament with the imminent election.

“WA Labor and I are committed to delivering the upgrade of the Joondalup Health Campus. We have already delivered early on the 12-bed stroke unit which was officially opened in March and is providing quality stroke care.

“It’s shameful for the Liberals to waste thousands of dollars in false advertisements when they’ve cut funding for WA hospitals.”
