Iluka resident, Max Letizia, will be competing in the upcoming Special Olympics Australia National Games in Launceston Tasmania from 17-21 October 2022. Almost 750 athletes will compete across nine sports at this event.

Special Olympics Australia is part of a global sporting community for people with an intellectual disability. It is a movement of people creating a new world of inclusion and community, where every single person is accepted and welcomed, regardless of ability or disability.

Athletes such as Mr Letizia fundraise to support their participation. Emily Hamilton MLA, Member for Joondalup, is pleased to have the opportunity to donate a small contribution towards Mr Letizia’s travel costs.

Representing Team WA in the Swimming category, Mr Letizia is a local and active member of the ARENA Swim club. The ARENA Swim Club is based within the Joondalup HBF Arena and is the club that produced gold medallist paralympic athlete Ben Popham.

Comments attributed to Emily Hamilton:

“Sports are a vital part of our community, and I am proud to have the opportunity to support our local athletes like Max Letizia as they compete at a national level, as well as the organisations and venues like Joondalup Sports Club and the HBF Arena where these athletes begin their journeys.

“Joondalup is a fast-growing city, and the McGowan Labor Government is committed to continuing its support for sports within our community and throughout WA.”
