The McGowan Labor Government’s 2021-22 State Budget includes funding for a range of projects and initiatives to benefit Joondalup.
The Budget contains a massive $1.9 billion boost to Western Australia’s health and mental health services to address unprecedented demand in the State's health system.
Joondalup MP Emily Hamilton is pleased that works are underway on the $256.7 million expansion of the Joondalup Health Campus. This project will deliver more mental health treatment, more emergency department beds and inpatients beds, a new theatre, a cath lab, specialised clinic, additional parking, and upgrades to a range of services.
The $1.9 billion boost to health and mental health in the 2021-22 State Budget will see a further $100 million Emergency Department Support Package to improve patient flow, reduce bed block, relieve ambulance congestion and better support the health workforce, and an additional record $495 million boost to mental health, alcohol and other drug services.
Investment in education is a cornerstone of this budget with $6 billion for WA schools, including new schools and facilities, support for student mental health and well-being, as well as additional funding for students with disability and those who speak English as an additional language.
Ms Emily Hamilton is very pleased with the announcement of a VET Taster Program in Year 9 enables students to consider career choices earlier, and these vocational course trials are pathways to skilled jobs.
Ms Hamilton recently announced funding for science labs and science equipment grants at Eddystone Primary School, Heathridge Primary School and Poseidon Primary School, adding to the five schools in the Joondalup electorate that have already had funding delivered as part of our commitment to Science in Schools.
The McGowan Labor Government has committed a massive $9 billion to the COVID-19 response and recovery, which includes $1 billion of additional support in this Budget, to keep WA safe and strong and continue to fund our world-leading pandemic response.
Comments by Emily Hamilton:
“The 2021-22 WA State Budget that has been handed down is a budget that will deliver for Western Australians and for our Joondalup community.
“As a priority for the McGowan Labor Government, Joondalup has and continues to see investment in all areas from health to education, public transport and into our community and sporting groups.
“When talking with the community, it’s clear these challenging times have brought mental health challenges, particularly for young people in our community. That’s why we have invested a record $495 million to boost mental health which includes $129.9 million for youth mental health services and initiatives.”
